Your questions, our answers

  • How do I book The RockPins?

You can book The RockPins by calling / texting Matt on 07832 343 772, emailing at: info@therockpins.com or by contacting us using the ‘contact us’ page. We will get back to you within 24 hours..

  • How much time do you need for set up & sound checks?

We normally take approximately 1 hour to set up. Sound check lasts about 5 minutes. Therefore, if you wanted music from 7.30pm, we’d arrive by 6pm.

  • How long do you play for?

We can play for as long or as short as you would like us to, subject to cost. To give you an example, a typical evening event would be 2 x 60 mins sets or 3 x 40 minute sets of live music with recorded music before / in between and after the live sets.

  • Do I also need to book a DJ?

In a word; NO. We have an awesome sound system which is far better than most DJ’s equipment out there. We also have fantastic lighting equipment including stage and dance floor washes, moving heads, lasers and other effects. We use a computer based mixing programme to create music playlists to suit your tastes / event. You can even plug in your Ipod / computer to our sound system if you’d prefer. The only thing you don’t get is the DJ that loves the sound of his own voice speaking over the top of every song!!

  • Have you played our venue before?

The RockPins have performed at hundreds of live music events over the years, predominantly in Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Surrey and London. Check our Venues page to see just some of them. Whilst it does offer some advantage for us to have played at a venue previously, it does not affect what is required for a sound check, as we have to sound check each time we play. So familiarity in this respect is not beneficial.

  • How far can you travel?

The RockPins will travel anywhere within the United Kingdom. Obviously, the best rates will be for those venues closest to London and the south east of England, but we are happy to quote for venues further afield.

  • How loud is the band?

The RockPins can play as loudly or as quietly as you like! We have an awesome PA system (2 x FBT Himaxx 60A and 2 x FBT 100SA subs, 1 x Allen & Heath ZED22FX desk). We also have a great drummer in Nick, who has fantastic feeling and is capable (unlike most drummers) of playing his drums quietly if required. Your minimum volume is governed by the acoustic instruments; this being the drums! The drummer has the option to use ‘hot rods’ instead of drum sticks which are quieter.

  • Do you offer an Acoustic Set?

We have recently started offering an acoustic set either as an addition or in place of the full band. We can play all the same songs, and we will still amplify everything, but it will a more chilled version of the full band. Instead of drums, we use a Cajon, instead of electric guitars, we use electro-acoustic guitars. (see our Videos for more info).

  • What is your sound set up?

We are available as either a 3 piece – ‘power trio’ (as per all the audio demos) or if you want an even fuller sound, as a 4 piece, employing an extra guitarist / vocalist. We only use top of the range audio equipment including FBT powered PA speakers and subs, and an Allen & Heath mixing desk to ensure a fantastic sound.

I’m sure if you’re looking to hire a band, you’ve probably heard a few by now; some good bands, some bad! Perhaps some where the speakers are distorting, some where the guitarist drowns everybody else out! Or some where it is just so unbearably loud and piercing you just have to leave by the nearest exit to protect your eardrums from exploding! You can be the best band in the world, but if you haven’t got the right sound, it can be pretty awful and can potentially spoil the whole show.

One thing we firmly believe in is the sound the band produces has to be right and pleasing to the ear! So we use the best equipment available to us, for both our enjoyment and yours.

Please note: Our recordings are untouched true representations. Many demos you will hear on other sites will have recorded 4 or 5 guitars, plus keyboards, vocal tuning etc to make them have a fuller, better sound, when in fact they are for example a 3 piece. It might sound good on the demo but it won’t be what you’ll get on the night!

PA SYSTEM:The band has recently invested in a new PA system. We now use 2 x FBT Himaxx 60a speakers with 2 x FBT 100sa subs. These are awesome speakers! We use these with an Allen Heath Zed22FX mixing desk. Whilst it is not always necessary to increase volume, at every gig we play, we always mic up the drums, and put the bass and guitar through the PA system to a certain extent. This doesn’t necessarily increase the volume, but it does make it warmer and richer sounding. It takes more time to set up, but its worth it!

  • Can we use your PA for speeches?

Yes, we are happy for your speeches to be through our sound system.

  • What time do you finish?

Normally 11.30pm to midnight, but we’re happy to adjust our timings to your requirements.

  • Pricing - How much do you charge?

The RockPins offer a competitive rate and try to work within your budget. We offer a 3 piece line up (as per all the demos) and also a 4 piece line up which includes an extra lead / rhythm guitarist / backing vocalist. By coming direct to the band, you negate the need to pay any agency fees which can be as much as 20% on top of the band’s fees! Please also remember, if you find a band through an agency for a similar price to The RockPins, it is likely you won’t be getting the same quality, as the band will be going out for less money, and there tends to be a reason for this!
